Symbols as Language

Symbols: Gateways to the Infinite

To the ancients, symbolism was not mere art or ornament—it was a sacred science. A cosmic cipher. An abstract dance of synchronicity between the human soul and the great architecture of the Universe. They understood: to know one’s purpose in this dimension, one must first understand one’s position within the Whole. Earth was not a random stage—but a classroom of transformation and a playground of initiation. Here, the spirit could touch matter, and matter could reach for the stars.

But how do you explain the limitless through a language bound by limits? This was the eternal riddle. A haunting dilemma for mystics, philosophers, and prophets alike: How do you articulate the infinite abyss—the unfathomable Source—using tongues shaped by time? “One cannot speak of the infinite world by applying tools that are definite and finite.”

— Jimmie Roberson

Their answer?
Symbols.

“For the symbols of mythology are not manufactured; they cannot be ordered, invented or permanently suppressed. They are spontaneous productions of the psyche.”
— Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces

Symbols became the chosen language of the divine—living metaphors for the eternal truths behind the veil of perception. More than pictures or markings, they were mental portals, or what might be called multi-dimensional LCDs—Learning Capacity Devices (my coined term) — designed to stretch with the mind of the seeker.

“Symbolism is the metaphysical language at its highest… the means by which man is capable of assenting to orders of reality that escape description by ordinary language.”
— René Guénon

Some rare souls—shamans, seers, and adepts—were born fluent in this ancient tongue. Through sacred encounters, altered states, and direct communion with the ineffable, they received the language of the cosmos not by study, but by grace.

“Shamanism is a path of knowledge, not of faith… and that knowledge cannot come from me or anyone else in this reality.”
— Michael Harner

“Silent knowledge is the deep, innate wisdom that is in all things… the universal wisdom that has always been at our fingertips.”
— Don José Ruiz

Those in touch with the Transcendent received and used ever-evolving concepts to explain, realize, and manifest the GOD-energy—that primal Source-force from which all life, meaning, and symbol arise. To them, language was fluid, myth alive, and reality an echo of divine imagination.

But for most, this sacred language had to be earned. It required stillness, training, and initiation. And often, a sacred spark—a starter code of symbolic wisdom—was needed to ignite the quest. These aspirants were given foundational values of the LCDs, metaphoric building blocks that acted as a jump boost into deeper communication with the divine.

“The alchemical process is not just chemical—it is symbolic. Each transformation reflects a psycho-spiritual dialogue, a ritual conversation between the soul and the divine.”
— Carl Jung

Each symbol contained layers—realms of meaning that unfolded as the initiate evolved. They mirrored the very structure of the cosmos: fractal, mysterious, and ever-deepening.

“Poetry is sane because it floats easily in an infinite sea... It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits.”
— G.K. Chesterton

This was not a one-size-fits-all path. Every soul began from a different origin point, yet through sincere drive, desire, and determination, each could unlock their unique doorway to truth. The journey was singular, but the destination echoed a universal melody: Know Thyself.

As the veil thins and perception expands, the symbols awaken. They guide the aspirant into realms where time dissolves, language bends, and the mystery of self becomes the mystery of everything.

Every true path—whether traced in chant, ritual, myth, or mantra—ultimately converges upon the same horizon: the Transcendent. And its native tongue… is symbol.
